Visit UNC’s Carolina Basketball Museum
Take a tour of one of the University of North Carolina’s (UNC) campus museums to explore a side of history that has never been collected and presented like this. The Carolina Basketball Museum chronicles a history of success, legendary wins, and some of the most outstanding careers in sports history. And it’s the first of its kind in the United States. Any collegiate sports fan will find themselves captivated by hundreds of artifacts, photos, and videos, as well as priceless memorabilia like old Michael Jordan jerseys. The collection is a complete presentation of the sport of basketball at UNC; its most historic moments and most influential players are at the forefront.
Any basketball fan may understand the museum best by the numbers. Displayed throughout an 8,000 square foot exhibit, more than 500 artifacts have been collected that describe the 20 Final Four appearances, 18 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament championships, and 6 national championships of UNC history.
The experience at the Carolina Basketball Museum begins with a short presentation and includes video tributes to Dean Smith, head coach Roy Williams (who has the most NCAA Tournament victories in the nation), Tyler Hansborough, and Michael Jordan. Walk through the state-of-the-art museum on the glossy floor of a basketball court as you browse the artifacts and explore true sports history at UNC.
The Carolina Basketball Museum is located on the first floor of the Ernie Williamson Athletics Center. Meter parking can be found across the street in the Williamson Lot and hourly parking can be found at the Ramshead Deck. Check the 2017-2018 basketball schedule to catch a game during your visit. There are four home games in January and February. Click here to view the schedule, photos, and get more information on the Carolina Basketball Museum. Admission is free!
