The Chapel Hill-Durham area of North Carolina is famous for its great food, vibrant nightlife, and rich, diverse culture. It means that dates around town have endless options that always keep it interesting and provide new things to try. With a symphony orchestra reputed as one of the best in the Southeast and authentic Greek cuisine in an interesting and charming space, date night in Durham will be one to remember.
On Sunday, January 14th 3-5PM, COT performs its third concert in its 2017-2018 six-concert season. The concert, 20th Century Luminaries includes Corigliano’s Voyage for String Orchestra, A. Copland’s Appalachian Spring, and A. Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony No. 2. Tickets are $30 per adult; just click here. The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle is composed of forty-two of the most accomplished and talented musicians in the southeastern United States as well as the world-renowned conductor, Lorenzo Muti. The foremost objective of COT is to perform some of the rarest pieces of classical music with extraordinary quality and they’ve earned an outstanding reputation since their founding in 1982 as one of the best ensembles in North Carolina and the Southeast. Fletcher Hall, the elegant auditorium within Durham’s Carolina Theatre that the ensemble calls home, seats over 1,000 guests. With its spectacular acoustics and 1920s-era Beaux Arts style décor, the Carolina Theatre is a one-of-a-kind venue for an evening out with your special someone.
Afterwards, head out for some early evening dinner. There are plenty of options, but we’ve selected one of our favorites, Kipos Greek Taverna, that guarantees you a delicious meal in a stylish and romantic setting. Kipos is a true modern Greek restaurant with traditional Greek cuisine cooked by real Greeks in a contemporary atmosphere with high-end industrial decor; even if you’re not a fan of grilled octopus (to each their own) there are plenty of menu options to suit anybody’s taste. Order paidakia (grilled lambchops) and keftedes (meatballs) as your appetizer, or treat your tastebuds to an authentic Greek salad. Before leaving, grab some fresh pastries at the bakery to enjoy in your room before settling in for the night or a bottle of real Greek olive oil and wine to take back home with you.
